How MCL creates a strong employer brand with a careers website

Case

Good candidates for vacancies are hard to find. For Medical Center Leeuwarden (MCL) this is not any different. To ensure that jobseekers opt for MCL, the hospital wants to be able to present itself as an attractive employer. And that is best done with a website that is fully focused on job seekers. That is why MCL developed a dedicated careers website together with us. In this case we show you how MCL approached this project.

Presenting MCL as an attractive employer

Striking hero shows core values of #teamMCL

On the website there is plenty of space to show the employees behind the MCL. This starts directly on the homepage with a hero containing photos of various employees in different functions. Between the photos are a number of icons that express the core values of the MCL: seen, heard, helped. Katinka Gieltjes, recruiter at MCL, says that they receive many compliments about this from visitors. “This hero was very important to us and is the point of recognition on the website.”

A spotlight on the people behind the MCL

The website contains many employee experience stories. These stories give a good impression of working at the MCL in various departments. There is also an Instagram widget that gives the visitor a look behind the scenes of the hospital.

Katinka: “Especially the personal stories of the employees and the faces of the people behind the MCL are very much appreciated.”

Easily navigate to the vacancies in the right job category

The website is designed in such a way that visitors navigate quickly and easily to the desired vacancies. MCL has reduced all function groups to 5 main groups that you can find on the homepage. From a main group, the visitor is taken to a page with job categories. And from there the visitor goes to the vacancies for that job group and related experience stories.
Because visitors are guided quickly and easily to the right place in this way, this website does not have a prominent main menu. There is a hamburger menu at the top right, which visitors can use to navigate directly to the desired page.

Quickly apply and contact recruiters

From a vacancy page, the visitor can apply directly via a short form. Does the visitor want more information first? At the bottom of each page are the contact details of the recruiters. And on every page there is a 'Chat via Whatsapp' button that puts the visitor in direct contact with the recruiters. Katinka: “We get quite a few WhatsApp messages with questions. We do notice that we often receive questions for another department.”

Stay in touch with candidates with the job alert

Is the vacancy for the visitor's dream job not online? No worries. The visitor can register for the job alert. As soon as new relevant vacancies are posted, the visitor receives them directly in the mailbox.

"The website has positioned MCL better as an employer."

Website is easy to manage

The MCL was looking for a website that is easy to manage and where functions such as retargeting can be used easily. The CMS is easy to use and gives the recruitment team the opportunity to easily add texts, photos and videos.

Posting vacancies is fully automated

Vacancies are automatically published and updated from the Yellow Yard recruitment software. And applications automatically end up in the recruitment system, where they can be processed immediately.

What beneficial impacts has the website had so far?

The website hasn't yet taken any workload off the recruiters. The MCL didn't have a careers website before this. So keeping up with this website is a new, additional task for the recruiters. However, they are already noticing a significant advantage: "the website has positioned MCL better as an employer."

Do you have a tip for recruiters who want to build a careers website?

Katinka"Our main tip is to carefully consider beforehand the atmosphere you want to convey (employer brand) and the functionalities the website should meet. Sketching this out beforehand is important, also to accurately estimate the costs."
